Chesterfield High School Pigskin Cook-Off (SCBA)
March 14 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
The Chesterfield High School Pigskin Cook-Off provides fundraising for the Chesterfield High School football team. Fundraising serves as the lifeblood of many high school programs. Even football, one of the biggest programs at any school, can find itself in a financial pinch without it. As a result, kids from every team, club and group spend part of their year trying to make money.
This BBQ competition prevents them from having to send out the players to sell discount coupon books or forcing them to do other types of fundraising. Former head coach Chris Arnoult began the event several years ago, but he later took a position at a new school. However, the BBQ tradition continued even after he moved on.
“It’s a fundraiser I started a couple of years ago in Chesterfield,” Arnoult said. To clarify, he was speaking about a similar competition he now hosts at his new school, Mid-Carolina.
“I always felt like I was asking the kids to do things to raise money for the program so I wanted to kind of take the pressure off them a little bit. This allowed us to make improvements to our facilities, purchase equipment for the guys, purchase equipment for the weight room, help with travel and feeding the guys, buying Gatorade … Facility and equipment was a large portion of that.”
The South Carolina Barbeque Association sanctions the Chesterfield High School Pigskin Cook-Off and provides the judges. The cookers pay an entry fee and some will win cash prizes.
Blind judging will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Judging will be conducted by the South Carolina Barbeque Association (SCBA). In addition, participants have the opportunity to earn points toward the Master Barbeque Award competition sponsored by the SCBA.
Judges will announce the winners of the Chesterfield High School Pigskin Cook-Off and present awards at 2:00 p.m.
