BBQ enthusiasts, mark your calendars for May 21st because Gettin’ Piggy With It is coming to Raleigh, North Carolina.
This barbecue festival, organized by Lawrence Barbecue owner Jake Wood, promises to be an exciting event with some of the most acclaimed pitmasters in the Southeast showcasing their skills.
The event will be held at Maywood Hall & Garden. From 12 pm to 6 pm, attendees can indulge in delicious barbecue from some of the top new school barbecue restaurants in the Carolinas.
Who’s Cookin’
The event features restaurants from across the Carolinas, including Lawrence Barbecue, Longleaf Swine, and Dampf Good BBQ from the Triangle area. Other notable North Carolina restaurants include Jon G’s Barbecue, Southern Smoke, and Shepard BBQ.
Additionally, South Carolina’s Lewis Barbecue and King BBQ and Los Angeles’ Zef BBQ will also be making appearances.
Beyond the savory goodness of barbecue, there will be a wide range of other culinary treats to enjoy.
Attendees can expect to feast on food from Durham’s Ex-Voto and Locals Seafood, Raleigh sandwich shop (ish) Delicatessen and Wye Hill, and oysters from N. Sea Oyster near Surf City. For dessert, Andia’s Ice Cream, Tepuy Donuts, and Wonderpuff Cotton Candy will be available to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Where Is It?
The festival will be held at Trophy Brewing’s event space, Maywood Hall & Garden, which will also be providing beer and cocktails from Young Hearts Distilling.
The ambiance of the event will be complemented by the beautiful scenery of Maywood Hall & Garden, making it the perfect event to enjoy with family and friends.
However, what truly sets Gettin’ Piggy With It apart from other food festivals is that it is a fundraiser for Raleigh’s Frankie Lemmon School and Developmental Center.
The school is connected to the Triangle’s culinary scene through high-profile fundraising efforts like the Triangle Wine Experience.
What’s It For?
The goal of the event is to raise $100,000 for the Frankie Lemmon School, and all proceeds from the event will go directly to the organization.
For those who don’t know, the Frankie Lemmon School and Developmental Center is a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive educational and therapeutic services to young children with special needs.
The school serves children with a wide range of developmental disabilities, including autism, Down Syndrome, and cerebral palsy.
The organization has been a mainstay in the Raleigh community for over 50 years, and the funds raised from Gettin’ Piggy With It will be used to support their educational programs and services.
