September 5 @ 11:00 am - 1:30 pm
Pork & Piggin’ is a public barbecue cook-off held on Main Street in Ruby, South Carolina, as part of the Jewel City Jubilee. Sanctioned by the South Carolina Barbecue Association, the event brings cook teams together for a day of competition, public barbecue service, and awards.
Visitors can watch teams prepare throughout the day and get a close look at the work that goes into competition barbecue. While judging happens separately, there is still plenty to see around the cook sites as teams manage their fires, prepare their entries, and serve barbecue to the public.
Public barbecue service is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The awards ceremony follows at 2:30 p.m., when the winning professional teams are recognized.
Because Pork & Piggin’ is an outdoor community event, visitors should check the forecast and plan for time on their feet. Comfortable walking shoes are a good idea, and a chair may come in handy for anyone planning to stay through the awards.
Cook teams should review the current official cooker information before entering, as competition rules, entry details, team-space requirements, and turn-in procedures may change from year to year.
Also update the event end time from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and replace the Cheraw-based featured-image alt text. The public-facing venue should remain Main St., Ruby, SC; do not add 141 Market St. to the body, since that is the competition turn-in location rather than the event venue.
