Barbecue at the Farm
The Hopeful Hog brings barbecue, live music, family activities, and a good cause together at Benford Brewing & Farm Life in Lancaster.
The centerpiece is a South Carolina Barbeque Association-sanctioned cook-off, with competition barbecue available for festivalgoers to sample. The day also includes live music, a vendor village, children's activities, and Benford Brewing's craft beer.
The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and parking is free.
The BBQ Cook-Off
Cook teams fire up their smokers for a competition judged by the South Carolina Barbeque Association. Guests can sample barbecue from the participating teams while certified SCBA judges handle the official competition.
Details on admission and barbecue-sample pricing have not been published in the current event information, so check with the organizer before you go if those details are important to your plans.
Kids, Vendors, and More
There is plenty going on beyond the smokers. The Kids Zone includes a Bubble Zone, face painting, balloon art, and freeze-dance parties, while adults can enjoy Benford Brewing's beer and an axe-throwing station.
A vendor village and live music round out the afternoon, all in the brewery's relaxed farm setting.
A Cook-Off for a Cause
The Hopeful Hog is a fundraiser for Village & Vessel Ministries, a nonprofit that helps foster and adoptive families with the financial costs that can come with opening their homes to a child.
Village & Vessel provides grants to foster and adoptive families across the Carolinas. Organizers say every dollar raised through The Hopeful Hog goes directly toward supporting foster and adoptive families in South Carolina.
