Sardi’s Den ***Permanently Closed***
Irv Harrington and Mike McHenry opened Sardi’s Den in 1995; it quickly became a favorite among Clemson students, staff, alumni, locals, and tourists alike.
Sarid’s Den is one of the longest-running traditions in the area.
Shortly after opening, they began offering catering services, featuring their signature Tailgating “To-Go” packages.
These are popular with both Clemson sports fans and residents throughout the entire county.
Sardi’s Den has become a local and beloved institution for good reason: exceptional and distinctive food served in a casual and welcoming atmosphere.
Sardi’s Den was born as a love for good food surrounded by friends & family.

The owner, Mike, has an extensive background in catering and restaurants, so food was no mystery to him. While carefully crafting the perfect ribs from a secret recipe, Mike realized combining the love of food, variety, and the localness of Clemson to be something others enjoyed as well.
Thus Sardi’s Den was born!
Sardi’s Den has now expanded its in-house recipes to include seafood, barbeque, burgers, wings, salads, steaks, chicken, and more. Experience the taste that has all of Clemson buzzing for yourself.
Their famous ribs are made from a secret recipe. They have been described as having “the perfect combination of hickory smoke, sweetness, and spice” with a ‘tender but meaty texture.”
The remainder of the menu has drawn rave reviews as well, with diners calling Sardi’s Den burgers the best they’ve ever eaten and “coma-inducing.”
If you’re searching for great SC BBQ in the Upstate, Sardis Den is the place to go.
What Folks are Saying
Google Review
Among the many Google Reviews, Tamara Patrick has been visiting Sardis Den for decades:
We have been visiting my Mom in Clemson for 30 years. EVERY Time we come, we ALWAYS got to Sardi’s!
The bar-b-que is fabulous, the staff is equally good, they treat you like family and make fun of you like family too!! Love their slaw, so be sure to get that with your bar-b-que!
The place is nothing fancy, kind of a hole-in-the-wall place, but they have longevity going for them because they are consistently good. Pricing is very fair, and lunch you can do even cheaper.
I seriously can’t recommend this place enough We never tire of it, and we are rib snobs! Don’t miss this Southern gem!
Yelp Review
Over on Yelp, Jessica A wrote a bit of a novel about Sardis Den. Enjoy these excerpts:
Sardi’s Den is just that, a den! It is a small, almost secret retreat to go and have a good time with family and friends.
You really cannot go wrong with the daily specials on the boards (they have the best blackened fish with a shrimp cream sauce, but only limited times).
The BBQ sauce is homemade, the ribs fall off the bone, the drinks are cold, the fries and zucchini are crispy, the ranch is mixed in-house, the Jack Daniel’s Chicken Bacon Cheddar is to die for, and the burgers are grilled to order with many accouterments to customize them to your liking and the Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad has the best homemade dressing!
Make sure to save room for the decadent desserts!
If it is a Tuesday, that is an all-you-can-eat crab night, so make sure to get a reservation (the place can fill up quickly any night, so it never hurts to make one anyway).
If you are ever not happy with something, speak up, they will do what they can to make it right!
Everyone that works there is very customer-service oriented and definitely gets to know you and your preferences if you become a regular (to which there are MANY)!
There are multiple televisions to keep the guys occupied and an area off to the side that is good for family gatherings or a quieter dinner.
You can usually find good conversation at the bar, if you’re not shy and have a bit of sass, it helps!
If you enjoy good food and the company of good people, this place is for you!
Even if it is a packed house, the workers and customers alike are courteous to each other while making their way through the crowd and that is saying something for a place that serves alcohol!
