We have been in the BBQ business since 1973. Our recipes have been gathered over generations from our family with strong roots in the south and its tradition of BBQ and soul food.
Owner Russel Davis’s parents, John and Marceline, opened the original location decades ago.
“Russell Davis has been in BBQ for 50 years!” wrote wife Kay on a recent Facebook post on the anniversary o of Big D’s opening.
“In 1973, Big D’s opened in Surfside when he was just 12 years old. His job was opening the drinks and cleaning up. He had no idea then that he would still be serving up BBQ in 2023.”
“From Surfside to Waccamaw and then in 2013, we were blessed enough to open in Conway. Yes, this July will make 10 Great years of us being in Conway!”
Today, Russell and his wife Kay, along with their son Mason, work hard to keep Big D’s legacy alive.
“All through these years, God has blessed us with wonderful customers, some of which now feel like family.”
“Russell and I have had the privilege to watch some of you grow up, get married, have children and even a few grandchildren; thankfully you are teaching them to love Big D’s food too!”
“Also, we are extremely lucky to have new customers coming in often to give us a try, and tell us as they are leaving that they will be back and will bring friends.”
Of course, their loyal customers keep coming back for the barbecue.
But that’s not all. Among other things, Russell and Kay serve:

Tried this place for the first time today and LOVED IT!!! Great home cooked food in a clean and casual environment.
We planned on going last week but my wife saw Tuesday offered an additional choice of liver and gizzards. Each day they have an extra choice like meatloaf, chicken fried steak etc… so be sure to check which day suits you best.
However… all the day in and day out food they offered was fantastic. I liked every single thing I tried and I tried it all.
They had two types of BBQ pulled pork, awesome fried chicken, BBQ chicken and plenty of sides. The buffet price even includes drinks which isn’t true at a lot of places around here.
The folks running the place were very nice and personable. This is definitely going to be a place we return to time and time again and wish we had found it sooner!

The lunch buffet was loaded with all the “fixins” from lima beans, Mac-n-Cheese and slaw. Best collard greens I’ve ever had!!
There was two pulled pork varieties, bbq’d and fried chicken that was heavenly and the corn bread..divine!!
The staff shows the epitome of Southern hospitality and the dining area was super clean! Will definitely go anytime I’m in Conway!!
