Lowcountry Smoke & Shuck brings barbecue and seafood together on the Village Green at Freshfields Village. Admission is free, with food and drinks sold separately. Whole-hog barbecue, smoked chicken, oysters, shrimp, and live music make up a relaxed afternoon built around food that feels right at home in the Lowcountry.
Barbecue Meets the Oyster Roast
The barbecue here is more than a side attraction. The Peculiar Pig, a heritage-hog farm from Dorchester, brings the whole-hog roast, while Anderson’s Fork Grove Barbecue serves smoked chicken and classic sides. CudaCo. Seafood House adds the seafood side of the gathering with an oyster roast and shrimp boil.
That combination gives Smoke & Shuck a different feel from a barbecue cook-off or tasting competition. There is no judging or competition component for spectators to follow. Instead, the focus is on buying food from the participating cooks, finding a spot on the Village Green, and enjoying the afternoon.
What to Expect at Smoke & Shuck
Registration is free, but it does not include food or drinks. Food and beverages are sold separately during the event, with cash and credit accepted. Beer, wine, cocktails, and nonalcoholic drinks are also available.
Live music accompanies the food and drinks, and the event is designed as a family-friendly gathering. Guests may bring chairs for the Village Green. Outside food, beverages, and coolers are not permitted.
Smoke & Shuck is a new event, so its lineup and format may evolve if it returns. Check the official Freshfields Village event page before making the trip for the latest food, registration, and event details.
