Burly Bill’s BBQ

Burly Bill’s BBQ serves the best barbecue in the Upstate.

They offer six kinds of smoked meat that is first dry-rubbed then smoked on oak, apple, and hickory wood. Burly Bill spent time in Oklahoma where he learned to do Texas-style beef brisket.

The pulled pork is authentic SC BBQ, and the ribs are something special.

Several slabs of spareribs in an aluminum tray.

Each and every one of the sides is made from scratch, and the four tasty sauces are not from a jar, but from recipes that are homemade.

Warning. Bring cash. Burly Bill does not accept credit cards.

And don’t get fooled by the fact that Burly Bill’s BBQ is a simple trailer. You won’t find better BBQ in the area.

What do the Reviews Say about Burly Bill’s

Google Review

Among the many Google Reviews, Local Guide Stephen knows where to fill up after a tough hike:

Always check out the roadside BBQ. It’s worth your time. Burly Bill’s basically looks like a food truck, but I don’t think I’ve ever not seen it open on a weekend.

The BBQ is cooked well and they’ve got some nice sauces to complement everything they make.

Plate sizes are good enough to fill a big dude after a long and strenuous hike, but, c’mon, the apps are great so order a bit extra.

Yelp Reviews

Over on Yelp, area hiker James B has visited Burly Bill’s more than once and thinks it’s a gem:

Holy cow!

Been here twice.  From now on when we go hiking in table rock or Jones gap or caesars head we will always stop here!

The first time I wasn’t sure as it’s a BBQ trailer on the side of the highway.  But the “BEEF BRISKET” on the side of the trailer lured me near.

It was ah-maze-balls!  Humongous brisket sandwich (I’m talking big- they use a large wide bun and pile it with brisket), best 7$ I’ve spent in a long time

The second trip there was with friends and family and we all ordered food- brisket sandwich again of course!!

But the icing on the cake was when the lady brought out a nutty buddy snack bar as a complimentary dessert for each of the four children with us- how nice!

Don’t pass up on a hidden gem like Burly Bill’s BBQ!”

In addition, Carmen M wrote the following on Yelp:

We had looked all over South Carolina from the shores to the mountains for authentic South Carolina BBQ.

Although we ate at several places, we found what we were looking for at Burly Bill’s.

The smoky pulled pork in chunks with some crispy edges was fabulous! The ribs were smoky, tender with a nice sauce.

Bill’s offered four house-made sauces. The Carolina mustard sauce was exceptional. The spicy sauce was exceptional as well, but being from Texas it was just a yummy medium.”
